Morna has worked with thoroughbred racehorses for more than 20 years in the U.S.A. and Ireland. In the US, she began work for Hall of Fame trainer Janet Elliot before working as an assistant trainer for Bruce Jackson at Delaware Park, Rick Violette in New York and Florida, and then for owner Earle Mack. Later she worked for Grove Stud in Ireland as their breeze-up rider and as a spotter at the foal and yearling sales before setting up her own business in 2015.
This business is based on her farm in North County Cork, Ireland. She has developed the facilities to include extensive turnout, stabling, and training facilities. Morna loves all the aspects of developing young horses for flat racing. As well as breeding horses, she buys foals and preps them for yearling sales. She also produces yearlings for 2 year old (Breeze- up) sales, and for racing. The horses are consigned at various different sales in Ireland, England, and France.
She has been the work rider for some great horses including ReadtheFootnotes who took her to the Kentucky Derby in 2004. Graded stakes winners such as Dream Rush, Saved by the Light, ManfromWicklow and many more. Breeze up graduates such as The Grey Gatsby, Astaire, Barefoot Lady, Rosdhu Queen to name a few have kept her work exciting.
In this new chapter, Tango (Listed winner and 4th in the Cheveley Park Stakes Group 1) was one of the first yearlings she consigned under her own name in 2018. Bodhicitta is now a Grade 2 winner and Grade 1 placed graduate of her breeze-up consignment in 2018. Above from her 2019 breeze-up sales is Group 3 and Listed placed.
